Later this year, Intermezzo will move down the block to Independent Bar’s former space at 1049 Central Ave., which shuttered its doors in the fall of 2022.
ILovetheBurg says that Intermezzo’s new location will have a “Florida-meets-Mediterranean” style and will expand on its coffee and cocktail programs that have cemented its reputation as a go-to spot in St. Pete.
Intermezzo also plans to open an outdoor bar within its fenced-in patio space, which is adjacent to Central Avenue’s roundabout sculpture that’s commonly referred to as “The Butthole”—a local meme coined by the St. Pete Affirmations Instagram.
Inspired by “European and American cafés in the 1950’s and 1960’s,” the sleek St. Pete space is known for its menu of specialty coffee beverages and unique craft cocktails.
Intermezzo also hosts a monthly market, live musicians and its massive “Miracle at Mezzo” pop-up every winter—which we can assume will be even grander at its new location.
An article from St. Pete Catalyst explains that Intermezzo’s original cafe will be demolished as the first phase of this massive Edge District development, despite community members’ concerns with traffic and lack of parking.
Until its move later this year, Intermezzo will remain at its current location at 1111 Central Ave., open at 8 a.m. daily. For the latest updates on its eventual move, head to Intermezzo's Instagram at @intermezzocoffe.
