Tampa Bay area group Rebuilding Together wants to help. Today from 3 p.m.-5 p.m., the group, together with volunteers from Lake Michigan Credit Union, will distribute free hurricane kits to community members until supplies run out.
"Rebuilding Together is committed to supporting the community during this critical time and ensuring residents have the necessary tools to stay safe and secure," the group wrote in a press release.
The kits will be distributed at Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties located at 1350 22nd St. S in St. Petersburg.
Sharon Painter., Senior Marketing & Communications Manager at Rebuilding Together, told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the group has 150 kits on hand.
On Tuesday, experts at Colorado State University cited near-record warm Atlantic and Caribbean waters as they increased their storm forecast, adding that Florida could see even more hurricanes this year.
