Theater companies like Jobsite, Tampa Rep, Stageworks, The Off-Central, and freeFall are presenting a number of exciting shows this year, including “The Bridges of Madison County,” “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell.”
Tampa Rep’s production of Tony-Award winning “The Bridges of Madison County,” directed by Michelle Petrucci, follows Italian-American housewife Francesca as her life is changed by a charming photographer named Robert. “Bridges” will be at Straz Center’s Jaeb Theatre from April 10-20, 2025.
Less than a month later, Jobsite Theater puts on “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell,” an English-language adaptation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s debut play, El Maleficio de la Mariposa. A thrilling display combining live music, visual art, aerial and circus arts, and even puppetry brings Lorca’s mystical critter-filled world to life next summer (May 7-June 1). Right now, the company is in the midst of a two-week run of Roxanne Fay's "Thrice To Mine," which a press release described as a "magical, historical tale of the real Lady Macbeth."
Stageworks continues to serve its mission with "What The Constitution Means To Me" and the return of "When the Righteous Triumph," where Tampa playwright Mark E. Lieb retells the story Tampa’s civil rights lunch counter sit-in.
If none of these shows meet your standards, don’t fret; there are plenty of others to choose from, like freeFall’s highly anticipated production, “Fable.”
