Bertrand, 30, is a previous Florida’s Funniest Comedian and Best of the Bay winner. But he doesn’t live near Tampa Bay anymore. He’s not even in Florida: Bertrand now calls Austin, Texas home, though he’s usually on the road.
He’s toured 40 cities over the past four months, and in August alone he’ll be in North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, and Alabama.
And Florida, of course, including a date at Side Splitters’ North Dale Mabry Highway location in Tampa.
Back in the day, you could see Bertrand share his brand of casual, self-deprecating humor all over the area, hitting open mics and jumping on any show he could find. His popularity soon grew, and a successful turn on "America’s Got Talent" introduced him to millions of comedy fans. So a local appearance is a rare thing these days, but Bertrand is looking forward to it.
“It’s always the best when I get to come back home to Tampa,” Bertrand told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. “I started at Side Splitters 10 years ago in the lobby (where they held open mics), and there truly isn’t a place in the world that feels more like home.”
Tickets for Cam Bertrand’s show at Side Splitters in Tampa on Thursday, Aug. 1 start at $20. Readers are invited to submit their own events to Creative Loafing Tampa Bay’s things to do calendar.
